Lent is that time of year when every good Catholic gives up something, just for the sake of suffering, which Matt Sullivan's (Josh Hartnett) had already been doing since his last big relationship ended in disaster.

40 Days and 40 NightsAnd as a stereotypical slacker with a Gap model's good looks, Matt decides to do what many lesser-gifted men have to do involuntarily, and take a vow of no sex. Whatsoever, 40 days straight. That means no touching, no kissing, no hugging, and no foreplay. 40 Days and 40 Nights.

Even no self-gratification! Nothing. It starts out fine until he meets the woman of his dreams (Shannyn Sossamon). And proving that sex is all Americans think about, he has to struggle to keep his Willie in his pants, and hope she'll wait 40 days to have sex. Big deal.
