Based on the historical novel of the some name, The Other Boleyn Girlalt is a tale of two sisters and their mutual affection for King Henry VIII of England (Eric Bona).

The Other Boleyn GirlLike all stories of lust and betrayal, everything starts with a master plan: upon hearing the King is not satisfied with his wife, the Duke of Norfolk convinces his brother-in-law Sir Thomas Boleyn to pimp his daughter Anne (Natalie Portman) to the King.

Anne is more than willing to cooperate because she's ambitious and power hungry. But when Anne inadvertently causes an accident that leaves the King injured, Mary, the other Boleyn girl (Scarlett Johansson) steps in to take care of the King.

Inevitably, a rift develops between the two sisters when The King falls for Mary. Somehow, Anne's able to get back into the King's life while Mary is pregnant ... and this goes on and on.

Eric Bana looks bored as King Henry VIII for most of the film (perhaps because his character is not given much to do), except when he's staring at Scarlett Johansson. At that point - and what heterosexual male wouldn't - he just looks horny. Both Johansson and Portman are solid, but not spectacular, in their performances (although Johansson seem to struggle with her accent).

Overall this is a heavily dramatized and romanticized account of real life events. Unfortunately, all the fictional drama and betrayal doesn't make for an intriguing film.
