In The Notebook Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) meet as teenagers in a pre-World War II setting of Seabrook, a town along the coast of North Carolina where they are swept in the fervour of young love.

Their romance is a blend of two worlds: Noah, poor, steady, does manual work for a living; Allie, affluent, vivacious, enjoys painting. The lovers are eventually separated but a few years on, just when they've managed to move on, (Allie is to marry Lon, a handsome charming soldier), fate shows them a path where they could be together again.
